The benefit of a long relationship, like our decade working with Washington's Lottery and Cole & Weber, is that they can come to you with an ask so ambitious it feels like a trust fall. We needed to create a rich world showcasing the inner workings of the Washington State Lottery's "Department of Imagination" where employees help lotto players to "imagine bigger and better than they've ever imagined imagining."
We guided the brief to take on an "Apple-meets-Willy-Wonka," minimal retro-futurism for the facility interiors. Our philosophy of the right tool for the right job led to a combination of practical props and sets mixed with CGI and matte paintings. A sprinkle of candy-coated psychedelic vfx and rainbow-colored practical props and we arrived at the look of the Department of Imagination.
